Fra' Giuseppe Requesens, belonging to the illustrious Palermo family of the princes of Pantelleria, was ascribed to the Order on November 24, 1636. Entering the service of the Venetian Republic, he fought against the Turks, distinguishing himself in a special way at the attack on Split in 1657. In 1661 he was vice provveditore of Makarska, while Andrea Cornaro was Provveditore Generale in Dalmatia and Albania. Retired to Venice, already half blind and more than octogenarian, he died there under the parish of San Geminiano on April 14, 1700, and was buried in the Prioral Church. This plaque – which then cost zecchini – was made at the expense of the Prince of Pantelleria and inaugurated by the Grand Prior Boccadiferro in 1759.
