Giuseppe Tassini in his manuscript on the Venetian Citizens tells us that from Gregia, at the end of the thirteenth century, a Marco Stefani di Giovanni arrived in Venice, whose descendants served in the Ducal Chancellery from the mid-fourteenth century. At the beginning of the fifteenth century a Giovanni was a notary at the Curia dell'Esaminador while a Francesco, priest of Santa Maria Formosa, was chancellor of the doge Foscari. We do not know if this Paul belonged to this family because the only news we have about him are those we read on this tombstone, that is, that in 1582, at the age of fifty, knowing for sure that death is the end that touches everyone, he decided to carry out this burial for himself and for his descendants.
