Fra’ Roberto Solaro dei signori Govone was born in Turin on 28 October 1652 and on 30 January 1657 he was received as a knight with the dispensation of the minor. He went to Malta, in 1683 he obtained the command of the Capitana prison and in 1687 that of the Galere Santa Maria, San Paolo and the SS. Annunziata, with which he found himself in 1688 in Negroponte. In 1694 he was Admiral, and having died the Grand Prior Lomellini, he obtained the Grand Priory of Venice on 9 September 1699. Leaving Malta in the spring of 1701, and returning first to Turin and Govone, he arrived in Venice in May 1702. Assisted by the priest Giacomo Pace, he died in this city in 1706. He was given solemn funerals, and he was placed the plaque with the previous inscription by his great-grandson Fra Antonio Maurizio Solaro, Grand Prior of Lombardy, born and received in the Order in 1689.
